AU theater professor tapped to ‘perform’ as division chair

Stephen Crosby, a veteran faculty member in the Alfred University Performing Arts Division, College of Liberal Arts & Sciences, has been named chairman of the division.

Crosby received a master of fine arts degree in directing from Florida State University. Before teaching at Alfred, he taught at Kalamazoo College, Gustavus Adolphus College, and the University of Alaska. In the past, Crosby has also been a faculty member for the Semester at Sea program.

Professionally, Crosby has been an actor, director, and writer in various areas of the United States including New York, Los Angeles, and the infamous Guthrie Theater in Minneapolis.

Crosby has stage performing credits as Oedipus in "Oedipus," Banquo in "Macbeth," Harpagon in "The Miser," as well as Bottom in "A Midsummer Night’s Dream." He has also appeared in a film and on PBS television. Within the past two years, he returned to acting on stage during Christmas season for the role of Scrooge in "A Christmas Carol" and touring with the Fairbanks Shakespeare Festival all over Alaska.
