Saxons tie Pitt-Bradford, 1-1, in double overtime

ALFRED, NY -The Alfred University men’s soccer team tied visiting Pitt-Bradford, 1-1, in double overtime Wednesday night.

Alfred got on the board first when junior midfielder Frankie Mannino (Elmira, NY/Elmira Free Academy) scored off a service from junior midfielder Sam Miller (Kinsman, OH/Badger). The Panthers (0-2-1) answered the Saxons goal six minutes later, when Abdul-Razaq Toby tied the game 1-1. The score remained 1-1, at the end of regulation. Despite chances for both teams in the two overtime periods, neither team was able to net the game winner, resulting in a draw.

Alfred outshot Pitt-Bradford 20-6, including a 9-3 advantage in shots on goal. Senior goalie Elliot Thorpe (Highlands Ranch, CO/ Thunder Ridge) made two saves in goal for Alfred. Adam Foster made eight saves in goal for the Panthers.

Alfred (1-1-1, 0-0-0 E8) is in action next on Saturday, Sep. 10, at 4 p.m. against host Marywood.
