AU men’s soccer team falls to Marywood, 3-1

SCRANTON, PA -The Pacers scored three assisted goals to defeat the visiting Saxons, 3-1, Saturday afternoon.

Marywood struck first when Christian Lawlor found the back of the net off a pass from teammate Jared El Gayeh. The Pacers increased their lead to 2-0, after Brett Megger buried a rebound shot from Christian Lawler, 13:40 into the first half. Sophomore midfielder Jeffery Thomas (Canandaigua, NY/Canandaigua) got the Saxons on the board less than a minute later off a feed from freshman defender Jose Sanchez (Rochester, NY/Harley School). Marywood would enter intermission with a 2-1 lead, as they outshout AU 11-2, for the half.

The Pacer’s Brett Megee scored the lone goal of the second half at the 53:26 mark, to give Marywood the eventual 3-1 victory. For the game, Marywood (1-1) outshot Alfred 14-5, including 9-4 advantage in shots on goal.

Senior goalie Elliot Thorpe (Highlands Ranch, CO/ Thunder Ridge) made five saves in goal for AU, and Jared El Gayeh made three saves in net for the Pacers’ to earn the victory.

Alfred (1-2-1, 0-0 E8) is in action again on Wednesday, Sep. 14, at 4 p.m., when they travel to take on host Morrisville.
