AU librarian/archivist to present program looking at campus during the Civil War
Laurie McFadden '91, Alfred University librarian and archivist, will present a Bergren Forum on Thursday Sept. 22 titled "Three Cheers for Union & Lincoln: Alfred University During the Civil War." The Forum program is at 12:10 p.m. in Powell Campus Center’s Nevins Theatre. This event is free of charge and open to the public.
Using primary sources found in the Alfred University Archives, McFadden will illustrate how the campus was affected by the Civil War. Letters and diaries provide intriguing insight into how the soldiers felt as well as how students reacted to various incidents throughout the war years.
McFadden earned a bachelor of science degree in business management at Alfred University. She then continued her education at the University of Buffalo and obtained a master of library science degree.
The Bergren Forum, sponsored by the Alfred University Division of Human Studies, meets Thursdays during each academic semester at the University. Participants are encouraged to bring a lunch; coffee and tea will be available.
