ALFRED, NY - Nick Clark (Canisteo, NY/Canisteo-Greenwood), a senior linebacker on the Alfred University football team, has been named Empire 8 Conference Defensive Player of the Week.

Clark was honored for his play in Saturday’s 36-12 win over visiting St. Lawrence, in which he had 10 tackles (five solo), including three tackles for loss and a pair of sacks. He also rushed five times for 25 yards and a touchdown.

Alfred (2-0) - ranked 12th and 16th, respectively, in the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) and D3football.com national Division III polls - is in action next on Saturday, Sept. 24, at 12:30 p.m., when the Saxons play their Empire 8 Conference opener against visiting Springfield.
