AU women’s tennis team splits pair at Oswego

OSWEGO, NY - The Alfred University women’s tennis teams split a pair of contests at a tri-match hosted by SUNY Oswego Saturday afternoon. The Saxons beat Oswego, 6-3, in a morning matchup before falling 5-0 to SUNY Oneonta in an abbreviated match Saturday afternoon.

Against Oswego, AU swept doubles play. Senior Griffin Currie (Erie, PA/Mercyhurst Academy) and freshman Jennifer Smith (Cutchogue, NY/Mattituck) won first doubles, 8-5; freshman Brennan Ferguson and junior Catherine Spencer (Homer, NY/Homer) won second doubles, 8-4; and freshman Emily Eisenberg (Oyster Bay, NY/Oyster Bay) and junior Devyn Devantier (Niagara Falls, NY/Niagara Wheatfield) took third doubles.

AU won three of six singles matches against Oswego. Currie won first singles, 6-1, 6-3; Ferguson claimed second singles, 6-0, 6-0; and junior Melissa Boyer (Bloomfield, MI/Lahser) took third singles, 6-0, 6-1.

Alfred (3-7, 0-5 Empire 8) is in action next on Monday, Sept. 26, at 4 p.m. at Wells.
