Saxons retain national rankings

ALFRED, NY - The Alfred University football team remained ranked in two national Division III football polls in the wake of last weekend’s loss at St. John Fisher.

The Saxons (3-1, 0-1 Empire 8) are ranked 23rd in both the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) and polls. AU was ranked 10th and 14th, respectively, in those polls prior to Saturday’s 17-3 loss at Fisher in the Saxons’ Empire 8 Conference opener.

AU will look to rebound in this weekend’s Homecoming game against Empire 8 foe Hartwick, which kicks off Saturday at 1 p.m. The Hawks (2-2, 0-1 Empire 8) are coming off a 27-13 loss at home to Empire 8 rival Ithaca.

Alfred and Salisbury (MD) University are the only nationally ranked Empire 8 teams. On Oct. 15, the Saxons will entertain Salisbury (4-0, 2-0 Empire 8), which rose to 14th in the AFCA poll and 22nd in the rankings in the wake of the Seagulls’ 70-45 defeat of Utica.
