Saxons tie Keuka 1-1, 2OT

ALFRED, NY-The Alfred University Men’s soccer team tied visiting Keuka College 1-1, in double overtime Tuesday night at Merrill Field.

Sophomore forward Jeffrey Thomas (Canandaigua, NY/Canandaigua) netted the first goal of the game at the 60-minute mark off an assist from sophomore midfielder Thomas Esposito (Farmingdale, NY/ Kellenberg). Keuka responded to AU’s goal when the Storms’ Nate Smith notched the equalizer with under 1:30 remaining in regulation.

AU (4-5-2, 0-3-0 Empire 8) dominated the two overtimes holding a commanding 10-1 advantage in shots, including a 4-1 advantage in shots on goal. Despite the Saxons numerous scoring opportunities in the overtimes neither team was able to net the game winner as the match would end in a 1-1 double overtime draw.

For the game, the Saxons dominated statistically holding 40-6 shot differential, and a 10-3 advantage in corner kicks. Senior goalie Elliot Thorpe (Highlands Ranch, CO/Thunder Ridge) was called on to make one save, and Derek Condon made an impressive 15 saves for Keuka (5-3-1).

AU returns to action Friday, Oct. 7, at 7 p.m., when they take on host Roberts Wesleyan in a non-conference match.
