ALFRED, NY - The Alfred University women’s tennis team was shaded by host Fredonia State, 5-4, in a non-conference matchup Tuesday afternoon.

The Saxons (4-8, 0-5 Empire 8) got singles wins from senior Griffin Currie (Erie, PA/Mercyhurst Prep), 6-3, 6-0 in first singles, and freshman Emily Eisenberg (Oyster Bay, NY/Oyster Bay), 6-1, 6-4 in sixth singles.

AU earned wins in two of three singles pairings. Currie and freshman Brennan Ferguson (Destrechan, LA/Ursuline) won first doubles, 8-2; junior Catherine Spencer (Homer, NY/Homer) and Eisenberg took third doubles, 8-3.

Alfred is in action next on Wednesday, Oct. 5, at 4 p.m. at home against Medaille.
