AU volleyball team splits four matches at Oswego Tournament
On Friday, the Saxons (6-13, 0-4 Empire 8) lost on Friday to Potsdam, 3-1 (25-11, 25-13, 24-26, 25-10) and SUNY-IT, 3-0 (25-23, 25-13, 25-18). They bounced back to take two matches Saturday, defeating Utica, 3-1 (26-24, 21-25, 27-25, 25-21) and Oswego, 3-1 (25-10, 22-25, 25-16, 25-16).
Against Oswego, AU was led by sophomore Paige Jensen (Weiser, ID/Weiser) with 20 kills and sophomore Chelsea Hall (Grand Island, NY/Grand Island) with 11 kills, 18 digs and two blocks. Sophomore Janelle Gallipeau (Rochester, NY/Greece Olympia) had 37 assists and 12 digs and sophomore Samantha Wood (Newfield, NY/Newfield) added seven kills and three blocks.
Jensen had 20 kills and two blocks and Hall had nine kills, six service aces, 18 digs and a block in the win over Utica. Gallipeau had 40 assist and 15 digs, and sophomore Kelsey Brand (Elmira, NY/Elmira Free Academy) had eight kills.
In the loss to Potsdam, Wood had nine kills, 10 digs and nine blocks; Jensen had seven kills and two blocks; Gallipeau had 20 assists and eight digs; and Hall had eight kills, three service aces, 23 digs and a block.
Hall led AU against SUNY-IT with 10 kills and seven digs. Jensen had seven kills; sophomore Brittany Anselment (Baldwinsville, NY/C.W. Baker) had 14 digs; and Wood had six kills, seven digs and four blocks.
AU is in action next on Tuesday, Oct. 11, at 7 p.m. at home against Keuka.
