Hartwick beats AU women’s soccer team

ALFRED, NY -The Alfred University women’s soccer team lost to visiting Hartwick College, 4-1, Sunday afternoon.

Kate Schild put Hartwick on the board 9:24 into the game off an assist from Cristina Sicari. At intermission Hartwick led 1-0.

Hartwick netted three more goals in the second half, two of which came from Cristina Sicari. The Saxons were able to answer with a score inside the 60-minute mark. The solo goal came from freshman midfielder Rachael Williams (Penfield, NY/Penfield). For the game, AU was outshot 26-6, and 17-4 for shots on goal.

Junior goalie Ashley Frazell (Newton, NJ/Newton) played the first half and made five saves in goal for Alfred. Freshman Alicia Hanes (Vestal, NY/Vestal) played 29 minutes in goal and made five saves before Freshman Brianna Opperman (Erie, PA/Collegiate Academy) made three saves over the final 16 minutes. Hope Brown and Teagan Waddington shared the net for Hartwick, combing for three saves.

Alfred (2-9-0, 0-5-0 Empire 8) is in action next on Saturday, Oct. 15, at 11 a.m. when they take on host Stevens in Empire 8 Conference play.
