Lady Saxons top SUNY Maritime, 3-2 10/16/11
Schuler got the Saxons on the board first netting her first of two goals of the afternoon just over 14 minutes into the contest, converting on a corner kick from freshman midfielder Rachael Williams (Penfield, NY/Penfield). Williams increased AU’s lead (2-0), off an assist from Schuler. Schuler notched her second and final goal of the contest to give the Saxons a 3-0 lead heading into intermission. In the first half, AU held commanding leads in shots (9-3), and corner kicks (6-0). Jorrie Trenkamp scored a pair of goals in the second half for the Privateers (2-13-1). Trenkamp’s goals came in a three-minute span (51:22, 54:10) to trim the Saxons lead to 3-2. SUNY Maritime was unable to notch the equalizer, as AU earned the victory. Alfred used a trio of goals in the contest. Junior Ashley Frazell (Newton, NJ/Newton) started in goal for AU playing the first half making two saves. Freshman Alicia Hanes (Vestal, NY/Vestal) took over in the second half play 31:45 and was not called upon to make a save; and freshman Brianna Opperman (Erie, PA/Pennsylvania Collegiate) played the remaining 13:15 in goal and recorded two stops. Courtney Marietta made a game-high eight saves in net for the Privateers. The lady Saxons (3-10, 0-6-0 Empire 8) return to action Saturday, October 22, at 1 p.m., when they take visiting Utica College. |
