MENDON, NY - The Alfred University women’s tennis team wrapped up its 2011 season over the weekend at the New York State championship tournament, held at Mendon Racquet Club.

AU was swept in singles and doubles play. Senior Griffin Currie (Erie, PA/Mercyhurst Prep), fell 6-3, 6-3 in first singles to RPI’s Casey Olsen; freshman Brennan Ferguson (Destrechan, LA/Ursuline), lost 6-1, 6-0 to Carly Siegel of Ithaca in second singles; junior Melissa Boyer (Bloomfield, MI/Lahser), lost 6-1, 6-0 in third singles to RIT’s Lindsey Gibson; senior Shannon Tovey (Chester, CT/Valley Regional), dropped a 6-3, 6-1 decision to RPI’s Amanda Alexander in fourth singles; junior Catherine Spencer (Homer, NY/Homer) lost her fifth singles match, 6-0, 6-2, to St. John Fisher’s Sania Zaki; and freshman Emily Eisenberg (Oyster Bay, NY/Oyster Bay), fell to Vasser’s Melanie Horn, 6-0, 6-0, in sixth singles.

Currie and Ferguson lost their first doubles match, 8-3, to Jess McCue and Katie Serock of William Smith; Boyer and Tovey fell to Christina Ciamarra and Lexi Rindone of RPI in second doubles, 8-0; and Eisenberg and Spencer dropped their third singles match, 8-1, to William Smith’s Kate Drunkwater and Casey Kennedy.
