AU’s Currie named Empire 8 women’s tennis all-star 10/26/11
The Empire 8 announced its 2011 women’s tennis all-conference teams Wednesday and Currie was named to the Second Team as a singles player. Currie posted a 10-5 record in first singles play this fall, including a 3-4 mark in conference matches. Currie was the Empire 8 Rookie of the Year and a Second Team conference all-star as a freshman in 2008, and was a Second Team pick in singles in 2009. She earned honorable mention for singles in 2010, her junior year. Each season, the Empire 8 honors students-athletes from each conference school, who play on teams sponsored by the conference, with Sportsperson of the Year awards. Honorees, chosen by their coaches, exhibited outstanding sportsmanship in keeping with the conference’s mission of "competing with honor and integrity." Senior Shannon Tovey (Chester, CT/Valley Regional) is Alfred’s honoree from the women’s tennis team. Alfred finished the 2011 season with a 6-9 record (1-6 Empire 8). |
