AU English equestrian team second in two shows at Lehman Farms

PITTSFORD, NY - The Alfred University English equestrian team competed in a pair of shows Oct. 29 and 30 at Lehman Farm, hosted by RIT.

On both days, the Saxons placed second of 12 teams competing. AU finished second behind Cornell in each show, coming up a point short (40-39) in the Saturday show and eight points behind (43-35) on Sunday.

Senior Erika Raye (Sussex, NJ/High Point Regional) helped lead AU on Saturday, finishing first in novice equitation on the flat and qualifying for regionals in that event. Other AU riders to post wins Saturday were: freshman Olivia Costich (Penfield, NY/Harley School) in open equitation over fences; senior Katie LeSuer (Edinboro, PA/Cambridge Springs) in intermediate equitation on the flat; junior Amelia Keyes (Webster, NY) in intermediate equitation over fences; junior Tesla Parker (Waitsfield, VT/Harwood Union) in novice equitation over fences; senior Danielle Ross (Staten Island, NY/St. Peter’s) in intermediate equitation on the flat; senior Jessica Repanes (Huntington Station, NY/Half Hollow Hills) in novice equitation on the flat; and junior Sara Schron (Whitehall, OH) and sophomore Kaylyn Slater (Phelps, NY/Midlakes), both in advanced walk-trot-canter.

Costich also placed third in open equitation on the flat; Keyes was third in novice equitation on the flat; LeSuer was second in novice equitation over fences; and Ross was second in intermediate equitation over fences. Junior Hallie Draegert (Dayton, NY/Gowanda) was second in advanced walk-trot-canter and qualified for that event regionals.

Sophomore Megan Burke (Montrose, NY/Hendrick Hudson) won novice equitation over fences and was second in intermediate equitation on the flat for AU on Sunday. Other event winners for AU on Sunday were: sophomore Amelia Maslen (Chardon, OH/Andrews Osborne) in novice equitation on the flat; Parker in intermediate equitation on the flat; senior Kalcy O’Keefe (Rochester, NY/Penfield) in open equitation over fences; freshman Alyson Raco (Penfield, NY/Harley School) in novice equitation on the flat; and sophomore Christina Watts (Bayville, NY/Eldred) in walk-trot.

Parker was second in novice equitation over fences. Other top riders for the Saxons Sunday included: Costich, second in both open equitation over fences and on the flat; Keyes, second in novice equitation on the flat; LeSuer, second in both novice equitation over fences and intermediate on the flat; Ross, second in intermediate on the flat; and freshman Jennifer Smith (Cutchogue, NY/Mattituck), second in novice over fences.

The AU English team is in action next on Nov. 5 when the Saxons host an Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) Zone 2, Region 1 show at the Alfred University Equestrian Center.
