Saxon English equestrian team takes second at AU-hosted show

ALFRED, NY - The Alfred University English equestrian team placed second at a show the team hosted at the AU Equestrian Center on Saturday, Nov. AU placed a mere four points behind Cornell University, with a pair of Saxon riders qualifying for regional competition.

Senior Katie LeSuer (Edinboro, PA/Cambridge Springs) placed second in novice equitation over fences, qualifying for the Zone 2, Region 1 championships, and also won in intermediate equitation. Sophomore Christina Watts (Barryville, NY/Eldred) was second in walk-trot and also qualified for the regional championships, which will be held March 17 in Ithaca.

Other AU riders winning events Saturday were: freshman Olivia Costich (Penfield, NY/Harley School) in open equitation over fences; freshman Alexandria Gerbec (Tonawanda, NY/Kenmore East) in advanced walk-trot-canter; sophomore Amelia Maslen (Chardon, OH/Andrews Osborne) in novice equitation on the flat; and senior Danielle Ross (Staten Island, NY/St. Peter’s) in intermediate equitation over fences.

Saxons earning second place finishes were: junior Amelia Keyes (Webster, NY)in intermediate equitation over fences and novice equitation on the flat; senior Ronja Ogrodnik (Spencer, NY/Spencer-Van Etten) and senior Jessica Repanes (Huntington Station, NY/Half Hollow Hills) in novice equitation on the flat; and senior Kalcy O’Keefe (Rochester, NY/Penfield) in open equitation over fences.

Junior Tesla Parker (Waitsfield, VT/Harwood Union), in intermediate equitation on the flat, and junior Sara Schron (Whitehall, OH), in advanced walk-trot-canter, each placed third for AU.

Alfred is in action next on Sunday, Nov. 13, in Ithaca, NY, at a show hosted by Cornell University.
