William Smith tops Alfred University women’s swimmers 11/13/11
GENEVA, NY - The Alfred University women’s swimming and diving team dropped a 140-97 decision to host William Smith Saturday afternoon.
AU (0-3) won the meet-opening 200-yard medley relay and got individual wins from freshman Christina Behr (Manahawkin, NJ/Southern Regional), in the 50-yard freestyle (26.03 seconds) and sophomore Eda Pellumbi (Windham, ME/Cheverus), in the 1,000-yard free (11:48.44). The team of senior Donna Hoops (Geneseo, NY/Geneseo), sophomore Heather Remchuk (Hornell, NY/Hornell), junior Eryn Matich (Johnson City, NY/Johnson City) and Behr won the medley relay in 1:59.11. Pellumbi was second in the 500 free (5:46.01); Remchuk was second in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:14.50); Hoops was second in the 100 backstroke (1:05.03); and Behr was second in the 100 free (56.91). Other top performers for the Saxons Saturday were: sophomore Paige Citarella (West Islip, NY/West Islip), second in the 200 free (2:10.70); junior Katie Ganley (Syracuse, NY/Westhill), second in the 200-yard individual medley (2:25.97) and the 100 butterfly (1:08.01); and junior Shelby Remington (Gainesville, NY/Letchworth), second in the 1,000 free (11:49.68). The team of Behr, Citarella, freshman Alyssa Fuller (Alfred Station, NY/Alfred-Almond) and Hoops took second in the 200 freestyle relay (1:51.20). The AU men’s and women’s teams compete next at the Ithaca College Invitational Dec. 2-4. |
