Lady Saxons advance to Buff State Tournament championship game

BUFFALO, NY - The Alfred University women’s basketball team defeated Hamilton College 58-50, Friday evening in the first round of the Buffalo State Tournament.

With the win, AU advances to Saturday's 2 p.m. tournament title game, where the Saxons will take on Buffalo State, a 72-34 winner over Hilbert in Friday's other first-round contest.

AU (2-0) held a six-point advantage (31-25) at intermission as they shot an impressive 48 percent from the floor, while holding the Tigers to 32 percent. The Saxons turn up the heat on defense in the second half holding Hamilton to a mere 16 percent shooting. For the game, AU shot 43 percent from the floor and limited the Hawks to 24 percent as well as forcing 16 turnovers in the contest.

Sophomore forward Grace Williamson (Olean, NY/Olean) (two blocks) netted 24 points and pulled down 10 boards for her second straight double-double of the year, and freshman guard Harley Cleary (Rochester, NY/Our Lady of Mercy) continued her strong start to her freshman campaign scoring a career-high 21 points, while grabbing six boards, four steals and a pair of assists. Senior guard Christina Jordan (Cornwall-on-the-Hudson, NY/Cornwall) contributed with five points, six rebounds, and a steal, and senior guard Kacey Kwiecien (Perry, NY/Perry) dished out a game-best eight assists.

Madie Harlem led Hamilton recording game-highs in points (26), and rebounds (12).
