AU falls in Buff State Tournament championship game

BUFFALO, NY - The Alfred University women’s basketball team was defeated by host Buffalo State 86-49, Saturday afternoon in the championship game of the Buff State Tournament.

Host Buff State held AU to 26 percent shooting, as they finished the contest shooting an impressive 50 percent from the floor. The Bengals capitalized netted 25 points off Alfred turnovers and scored an impressive 46 points in the paint to the Saxons' 12.

Freshman guard Harley Cleary (Rochester, NY/Our Lady of Mercy) led the Saxons (2-1, 0-0 Empire 8) scoring a team-best 14 points, while corralling five boards. Freshman forward Lindsay Drummond (Ogdensburg, NY/Ogdensburg) netted eight points and grabbed five rebounds, and senior guard Christina Jordan (Cornwall-on-the-Hudson, NY/Cornwall) and sophomore forward Grace Williamson (Olean, NY/Olean) (four rebounds) each scored six points.

Staci McElroy scored a game-high 21 points and Bianca Smiley recorded a double-double on 17 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Bengals (3-0).

The Lady Saxons return to action Tuesday, Nov. 22, at 5 p.m., when they take on visiting Penn College.
