ALFRED, NY - Harley Cleary (Rochester, NY/Our Lady of Mercy), a freshman guard on the Alfred University women’s basketball team, has been named Empire 8 Conference Rookie Player of the Week.

Cleary averaged 18.3 points and six rebounds per game as the Saxons finished the first week of the season going 2-1. Cleary netted 20 points in her colligate debut in a 76-58 win over Penn State-DuBois. Cleary followed that with a new career-best 21 points in a 58-50 victory over Hamilton in the first round of the Buff State Tournament. She concluded the week netting a team-high 14 points as the Saxons were defeated by host Buff State in the championship game of the tournament.

Alfred (2-1, 0-0 Empire 8) returns to action Tuesday, Nov. 22, at 5 p.m., when they take on visiting Penn College.
