AU women’s basketball team pounds Penn College, 92-45
AU sophomore forward Grace Williamson (Olean, NY/Olean) had a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds and senior guard Christina Jordan (Cornwall-on-the-Hudson, NY/Cornwall) netted a team-high 16 points for the Saxons, who improved to 3-1 on the season with the non-league win.
Williamson had 12 points and nine boards and Jordan 14 points in the first half, when AU shot 47 percent from the floor and outrebounded Penn College, 33-13, en route to opening a 54-16 lead at intermission. For the game, Alfred shot 42 percent and outrebounded the visitors, 63-26, while forcing 21 Penn College turnovers.
Five AU players scored in double figures, with freshman forward Lindsay Drummond (Ogdensburg, NY/Ogdensburg) scoring 12, freshman guard Emilea Harrison (Dansville, NY/Dansville) netting 11, and sophomore forward Sarah Federico (Buffalo, NY/Holy Angels) contributing 10. Federico just missed a double-double with nine rebounds.
AU sophomore guard Cate Mensler (Ballston Spa, NY/Saratoga Catholic) had seven points and seven rebounds; senior guard Kacey Kwiecien (Perry, NY/Perry) had a game-high five assists: and freshman forward Brennan Ferguson (Destrechen, LA/Ursuline) had four steals. Sophomore center Erin Patterson (Portland, NY/Fredonia) added six points and six rebounds for the Saxons.
Kiersten Steer scored a game-high 24 points on 11-of-16 shooting and pulled down seven rebounds to pace Penn College (0-6). Neisha Williams added nine points, six boards and a pair of assists, and Brianna Savini chipped in with six points and five rebounds.
AU plays next on Saturday, Nov. 26, at 4 p.m. at Hilbert.
