AU men’s basketball team knocks off Hilbert, 67-62

HAMBURG, NY-The Alfred University men’s basketball team defeated host Hilbert College, 67-62, Saturday afternoon in a non-conference match-up.

Senior Guard Josh Parker (Buffalo, NY/Sweet Home) recorded a double-double picking game-highs in points (22) and rebounds (11), while adding a game-best eight assist to lead the Saxons to their second straight victory.

AU (3-1, 0-0 Empire 8) held a 34-27 lead at intermission, as they finished the first half of action shooting 52 percent from the floor, while holding the Hawks’ to 29 percent. For the game, the Saxons shot 43 percent from the floor and Hilbert finished shooting 31 percent, including one-of-eight from behind the arc.

Senior forward Pat Hollenbeck (Ontario, NY/Wayne), and freshman forward Dan Totten (Red Hook, NY/Red Hook) (two blocks and two steals) each recorded 10 points and two rebounds and sophomore forward Mike Branche (Schenectady, NY/Colonie) chipped in with seven points and eight boards.

Dan McFarland scored 18 points and Jordan VanDunk scored five points, and pulled down 10 boards to lead the Hawks (1-4).

AU returns to action Wednesday, Nov. 30, at 7:30 p.m., at home against Wells College.
