AU men's hoops falls to Wells College, 78-68

ALFRED, NY - Visiting Wells College rallied from a seven point half-time deficit to defeated the Alfred University men’s basketball team, 78-68, Wednesday evening in the McLane Center.

The Express shot an impressive 52 percent from the floor in the second half, while holding the Saxons’ to a mere 20 percent in the second half. Turnovers played a key role in Wells second half success as they forced 12 AU turnovers, while committing just seven of their own in the second half. For the game, Wells shot 47 percent from the floor, and AU finishing shooting 33 percent.

Sophomore forward Mike Branche (Schenectady, NY/Colonie) and senior forward Pat Hollenbeck (Ontario, NY/Wayne) (two assists) each scored a team-best 13 points, while picking up eight and four rebounds respectively. Junior guard Sean Curran (Honesdale, PA/Honesdale) (four rebounds) netted 11 points, and senior guard Josh Parker (Buffalo, NY/Sweet Home) chipped in with 10 points, five rebounds, a game-high five assists, two steals, and two blocks.

Mabior Mayen scored a game-high 26 points, on 11-of-11 shooting from the floor to pace the Express (2-4). Luke Thomas netted 17 points, and Terry Harrison recorded a double-double scoring 12 points, while pulling down 12 rebounds.

AU returns to action Friday, Dec. 2, at 6 p.m., when they take on host SUNY Canton.
