ALFRED, NY - The Alfred University men’s basketball team improved to 2-0 in overtime games and 4-2 overall, as they defeated host SUNY Canton, 80-72, Friday evening.

The Saxons came back from an eight-point halftime deficit to earn the overtime victory. In overtime AU converted eight shots from the free-throw line, en route to outscoring the Roos’ 13-5, in the extra frame. For the game, AU pulled down 46 rebounds to Cantons 37 and finished with eight steals.

Junior guard Sean Curran (Honesdale, PA/Honesdale) scored a career-high 23 points on seven-of-16 shooting, and had five rebounds to lead AU (4-2, 0-0 Empire 8). Sophomore forward Mike Branche (Schenectady, NY/Colonie) had 19 points, eight boards, and two assists, and senior forward Pat Hollenbeck (Ontario, NY/Wayne) scored nine points and eight rebounds.

Vonallen Pickett scored a game-high 28 points and added seven boards to lead the Roos (4-3). Woody Jules netted 10 points and Khalid Vaughn scored eight points.

Alfred plays next on Saturday, Dec. 10, at 3 p.m., when they take on host Cazenovia.
