AU men place sixth, Saxon women ninth, at Ithaca Invitational swimming and diving meet
ITHACA, NY - The Alfred University men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams competed Sunday in the final day of the three-day Ithaca College Invitational meet. The AU men finished in sixth place while the Saxon women came in ninth.
AU was among nine teams competing in the meet, which was scored to 24 places and ran from Friday, Dec. 2, through Sunday, Dec. 4. Cornell won both the men’s and women’s meets.
The following AU men scored in individual races on Sunday: senior Warren Dolben (Rye, NH/Berwick Academy), fourth in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:13.55); junior Nate Chapman (Hornell, NY/Hornell), 10th in the 1,650-yard freestyle (17:16.55); freshman Jeffrey Rowland (Rochester, NY/Hilton), 16th in the 1,650-yard freestyle (17:32.99); freshman Joseph Rogers (Dublin, NH), 22nd in the 1,650-yard freestyle relay (18:33.10); senior Vincent Pascarella (Bradford, PA/Bradford), 24th in the 1,650-yard freestyle (19:12.07); sophomore Peter Sowinski (Akron, NY/Akron), 14th in the 100-yard freestyle (48.37 seconds); freshman Zach Toth (Lockport, NY/Starpoint), 15th in the 200-yard backstroke (2:02.63); and sophomore Kyle Kraeger (Henrietta, NY/Rush-Henrietta), 23rd in the 200-yard backstroke (2:06.49).
The AU team of freshman David Coombs (Dansville, NY/Dansville), Chapman, Toth and Sowinski took eighth in the 400-yard freestyle relay (3:14.07). Senior Richard Lenihan (Warwick, NY/Warwick Valley), Rowland, Irwin and freshman David Luke (Ocala, FL/West Port) placed 16th (3:23.22) in the same relay.
Scoring in individual events for the AU women Sunday were: junior Shelby Remington (Pike, NY/Letchworth), 20th in the 1,650-yard freestyle (19:28.97); junior Eda Pellumbi (Windham, ME/Cheverus), 22nd in the 1,650-yard freestyle (19:50.29); and freshman Christina Behr (Manahawkin, NJ/Southern Regional), 23rd in the 100-yard freestyle (55.59 seconds).
The AU team of sophomore Heather Remchuk (Hornell, NY/Hornell), junior Tracy Miller (Auburn, NY/Auburn), senior Donna Hoops (Geneseo, NY/Geneseo) and Behr took 16th in the 400-yard freestyle relay (3:52.26), while Pellumbi, juniors Eryn Matich (Johnson City, NY/Johnson City) and Katie Ganley (Syracuse, NY/Westhill) and freshman Molly Blair (Auburn, NY/Auburn) took 17th in the same relay (4:10.05).
The AU men’s and women’s teams are in action next on Thursday, Dec. 8, at 6 p.m. at home against RIT.
