AU’s Clark, Raplee earn all-region honors

ALFRED, NY - Two members of the Alfred University football team have been named regional all-stars., a leading website covering Division III college football, announced its regional all-star teams Monday and senior linebacker Nick Clark (Canisteo, NY/Canisteo-Greenwood) and junior defensive tackle Mike Raplee (Dundee, NY/Dundee) were named to the East Region First Team.

First Team All-Region picks are considered by for All-American selection. Clark and Raplee are repeat East Region First Team picks and were named preseason Second Team All-Americans this year. Clark was a Third Team All-American and Raplee was given honorable mention after the 2010 season.

The two were stalwarts on a Saxon defense that held opposing offenses to less than 300 yards per game, including only 116 yards rushing per contest.

Clark was a four-time Empire 8 Conference all-star (Second Team in 2008; First Team 2009-11) and was a two-time Empire 8 Defensive Player of the Year (2010, 2011). This season, he had 108 tackles (58 solo), including nine for loss and three sacks, and also had two interceptions (one returned 57 yards for a touchdown) and a pair of forced fumbles. He will leave Alfred as the program’s career leader in tackles, with 377. The Saxons’ short-yardage back, he had a team-leading 10 rushing touchdowns this year.

Raplee, a three-time Empire 8 all-star (honorable mention 2009; First Team 2010, 2011), had 68 tackles this season, including eight for loss and a team-leading 4.5 sacks.

The Saxons finished the 2011 season with an 8-3 record (4-3 Empire 8), ending the campaign with a 41-10 win at Bridgewater (MA) State in the ECAC Northeast Bowl.
