AU men’s basketball team tops SUNY Cobleskill, 58-55
The Saxons scored the games first 12 points before the Fighting Tigers hit a three-pointer to make it 12-3, with 15:37 left in the first half. AU would close out the first half taking a two-point advantage (29-27), as each team finished shooting 29 percent from the floor.
In the second half AU would trail by no more than a single point (two occasions) and would lead by as many as seven (52-47, with 4:32 remaining). For the game, AU finished outshooting Cobleskill, 31 percent to 28 percent from the floor and forced 19 turnovers.
Senior Josh Parker (Tonawanda, NY/Sweet Home) scored a game-high 15 points and had eight rebounds and two assists to pace the Saxons (5-2, 0-0 Empire 8). Senior forward Pat Hollenbeck (Ontario, NY/Wayne) picked up eight points, four boards, and two steals, and senior forward Derek Lewis (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads (Corning CC)) (10 rebounds), junior forward Sean Curran (Honesdale, PA/Honesdale), and freshman guard Tim Pacheco (Mt. Pocono, PA/Pocono Mt. East) each chipped in with seven points.
Brendan Doherty scored 13 points, and Clint Foster and Alexis Nunez each netted 11 points to lead the Fighter Tigers (0-9). Jack Jeffres pulled down a game-high 15 rebounds and dished out four assists.
AU returns to action Saturday, Dec. 10, at 3 p.m., when they take on host Cazenovia.
