AU indoor track and field teams strong in season opener
ROCHESTER, NY - The Alfred University men’s and women’s track and field teams opened their indoor seasons Thursday at RIT. Both squads had impressive showings, with one member from each meeting ECAC qualifying standards. There were no team scores.
Sophomore Rebecca Graudons (Mayfield, NY/Mayfield) won the pole vault with an ECAC-qualifying height of 3.20 meters to lead the Alfred women. She also placed eighth in the triple jump (9.53 meters). Sophomore Craig Gaymon (White Plains, NY/White Plains) paced the AU men’s team with his second-place finish and ECAC-qualifying performance in the high jump (1.93 meters).
Other top performers for the Alfred men’s team were: senior Rich Scott (Eden, NY/Eden), second in the 400-meter dash (51.70 seconds) and third in the 200-meter dash (23.26 seconds); junior Chris Lopez (Rochester, NY/Pittsford-Sutherland), fifth in the 60-meter dash (7.30 seconds); junior Jeremy Weaver (Lancaster, PA/Lancaster Catholic), second in the 500-meter dash (1:09.32) and senior Randy Brito (New York, NY/Cardinal Hayes), third in the 500 meters (1:09.40); sophomore Jason Osborne (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool), third in the shot put (13.88 meters); and freshman Alec Pastre, fourth in the shot put (13.12 meters).
Sophomore Chelsea Hall (Grand Island, NY) and junior Amy Morrissey (Hornell, NY/Hornell) each had second-place finishes - Hall in the 60-meter hurdles (9.85 seconds) and Morrissey in the 500-meter dash (1:26.58) - for the Saxon women. Hall was also seventh in the triple jump (9.57 meters); junior Jordyn Larkins (Rochester, NY/Harley-Alledale-Columbia) was third in the 200-meter dash (28.14 seconds) and seventh in the 60-meter dash (8.41 seconds); and junior Kelly-Jo Beck (York, NY/York) was fifth in the shot put (10.45 meters).
The AU men’s and women’s teams are in action next on Jan. 7 at Roxbury (MA) Community College.
