Lady Saxons stomp Cazenovia, 74-45

CAZENOVIA, NY - The Alfred University women’s basketball team knocked off host Cazenovia College, 74-45, Saturday afternoon.

AU held host Cazenovia to mere 45 points throughout out the contest and held them to under 25 points in either half (21 points in the first half, and 24 in the second). The Saxons held a 23 advantage at intermission as they shot 44 percent from the floor, and held the Wildcats to just 14 percent in the first half of action.

In the second half the Saxons continued to be stingy on defense as they held Cazenovia to 25 percent shooting and forced 10-second half turnovers (21 total). For the game, AU shot 37 percent from the floor and limited the Wildcats to 20 percent.

14 Saxons saw at least six minutes of action, as eight notched at least a bucket. Freshman guard Harley Cleary (Rochester, NY/Our lady of Mercy) continued her strong start to her freshman campaign, setting a new career-high of 28 points, on nine-of-14 shooting. Sophomore forward Sarah Federico (Buffalo, NY/Holy Angels) scored 11 points, and freshman forward Lindsay Drummond (Ogdensburg, NY/Ogdensburg) had 10 points, and seven rebounds. Senior point guard Kacey Kwiecien (Perry, NY/Perry) dished out a game-high eight assists, and had zero turnovers.

Erin O'Malley led Cazenovia scoring a team-best eight points.

AU returns to action Saturday, Dec. 30, at 2 p.m., at home against Penn State-Behrend.
