AU’s Clark, Raplee, Dwyer named ECAC North all-stars

ALFRED, NY - Nick Clark (Canisteo, NY/Canisteo-Greenwood), a senior linebacker on the Alfred University football team, is among three Saxons who have been named Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) North all-stars.

Clark and junior defensive tackle Mike Raplee (Dundee, NY/Dundee) were named First Team ECAC North all-stars, while sophomore tailback Austin Dwyer (Hornell, NY/Hornell) was named to the Second Team.

It is the latest of several major honors earned by Clark, the Saxons’ record-setting defender. He had previously been named an American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) First Team All-American, Third Team All-American and First Team East Region, and Empire 8 Conference Defensive Player of the Year and a First Team all-star.

Clark wrapped up an illustrious career with the Saxons by becoming the program’s all-time leader in tackles (377). This season he had 108 tackles (58 solo), including nine for loss and three sacks, and also had two interceptions (one returned 57 yards for a touchdown) and a pair of forced fumbles.

Raplee had 68 tackles this season, including eight for loss and a team-leading 4.5 sacks, and was named an Empire 8 Conference First Team all-star. He was also named honorable mention All-American and a First Team East Region pick.

Dwyer, the ECAC North Rookie of the Year as a freshman in 2010, led the Saxons in rushing this year with 980 yards. He averaged 5.1 yards per carry with nine rushing touchdowns and also had 15 pass receptions. Dwyer was a First Team Empire 8 all-star as a running back and was also named a Second Team Empire 8 all-star as a return man after averaging 22.8 yards per kick return.

The Saxons finished the 2011 season with an 8-3 record (4-3 Empire 8), ending the campaign with a 41-10 win at Bridgewater (MA) State in the ECAC Northeast Bowl.
