Graudons, Scott double winners at RIT

ROCHESTER, NY - The Alfred University men’s and women’s indoor track and field teams competed Saturday, Jan. 14, at the RIT Invitational. Sophomore Rebecca Graudons (Mayfield, NY/Mayfield) and senior Rich Scott (Eden, NY/Eden) each won two events, with Graudons tying a school record for the Saxons.

There were no team scores, but several athletes from the AU men’s and women’s teams turned in top-10 performances.

Graudons paced the Alfred women’s team with wins in the high jump (1.58 meters) and pole vault (3.35 meters). Both marks met ECAC qualifying standards and Graudons’ height in the high jump tied the school record set in 1999 by Jen Brewer.

Scott won the 400-meter dash (51.04 seconds) and 200-meter dash (23.08 seconds).

Other top performers for the AU men’s team were: junior Jeremy Weaver (Lancaster, PA/Lancaster Catholic), seventh in the 400-meter dash (52.95 seconds); senior Randy Brito (New York, NY/Cardinal Hayes) and freshman Sean Locker, second (1:08.67) and ninth (1:14.53), respectively, in the 500-meter run; senior Derek Denkenberger (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads), fifth in the 1,000-meter run 2:41.44); senior Ken Noll (Valatie, NY/Ichabod Crane), 10th in the 3,000-meter run (9:26.20); sophomore Isaiah Cassin (Candor, NY/Candor), fifth in the high jump (1.83 meters); and sophomore Jason Osborne (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool), sixth in the shot put (13.66 meters).

For the AU women, top-10 finishes were turned in by: junior Jordyn Larkins (Rochester, NY/Harley-Allendale-Columbia), sixth in the 200-meter dash (28.11 seconds); sophomore Samantha Wood (Newfield, NY/Newfield), eighth in the 400-meter dash (1:08.16); sophomore Corine Pettit (Strykersville, NY/Holland), eighth in the triple jump (9.68 meters); and junior Kelly-Jo Beck (York, NY/York), eighth in the shot put (10.07 meters).

AU is in action next on Saturday, Jan. 21 at Edinboro (PA) University.
