AU men’s basketball team evens record in Empire 8 Conference play
With the win the Saxons even their Empire 8 Conference record at 3-3 and improve their overall record to 10-5, and the Bombers fall to 7-10 overall and 4-2 in Empire 8 action.
The Saxons came out playing well in the first half outshooting Ithaca 42 percent to 32 percent from the floor and 39 percent to 36 percent beyond the arc to claim a 42-35 lead at intermission.
In the second half the Saxons would have an answer for challenges presented by the Bombers, as each team shot 44 from the floor for the second half. For the game, the Saxons outshot the Bombers 43 percent to 39 percent and held a 42-35 advantage in rebounds.
Junior forward Sean Curran (Honesdale, PA/Honesdale) scored a game-high 26 points and added six rebounds, four assists, and a block to lead the Saxons. Senior forward Derek Lewis (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads (Corning CC)) had 23 points, a team-best nine rebounds, two assists and two steals and senior guard Josh Parker (Tonawanda, NY/Sweet Home) finished with 17 points, seven rebounds, a team-high five assists, and a pair of steals.
Jordan Marcus registered a double-double on 22 points and a game-high 10 boards, as four Bombers scored in double figures.
AU returns to action Tuesday, Jan. 24, at 8 p.m., when they travel to take on host Elmira.
