AU track and field teams compete at Edinboro University Invitational
EDINBORO, PA - The Alfred University men’s and women’s indoor track and field teams competed Saturday, Jan. 21, at the Edinboro (PA) University Invitational. There were no team scores, but several Saxon men and women had solid performances.
The AU men’s team got victories from senior Rich Scott (Eden, NY/Eden) and sophomore Isaiah Cassin (Candor, NY/Candor). Scott won the 60-meter dash (7.22 seconds) and Cassin took the high jump (1.89 meters).
The Saxon men got top-10 finishes from the following: junior Shane Stadtmueller (Red Creek, NY/Red Creek) and sophomore Mykel Ferguson (Rochester, NY/Greece Olympia), third (1.77 meters) and fourth (1.74 meters), respectively, in the high jump; senior Evan Roush (Newport, PA/Newport), third in the triple jump (12.19 meters); senior Randy Brito (New York, NY/Cardinal Hayes), fifth in the 400-meter dash (52.12 seconds); sophomore Jason Osborne (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool), fifth in the shot put (13.57 meters); and senior Justin Shardlow (Alfred Station, NY/Alfred-Almond), seventh in the 60-meter dash (7.52 seconds).
The team of junior Jeremy Weaver (Lancaster, PA/Lancaster Catholic), freshman Sean Locker (Corning, NY/Corning-Painted Post-West), Brito and Scott took third in the 4X400-meter relay (3:20.91), while junior Stefan Nonnenmann (New Providence, NJ/New Providence), senior Ken Noll (Valatie, NY/Ichabod Crane), Stadtmueller and sophomore Jacob Gorke (Manlius, NY/Jamesville-Dewitt) were seventh in the 4X800-meter relay (9:02.75).
Sophomore Rebecca Graudons (Mayfield, NY/Mayfield) led the Alfred women with a pair of top-five finishes. She was second in the pole vault (3.50 meters) and fourth in the high jump (1.52 meters).
Other top-10 finishers for the AU women were: freshman Miasia Hillman (Buffalo, NY/Hutch Tech), junior Jordyn Larkyns (Rochester, NY/Harley-Allendale-Columbia) and freshman Patricia Banahene (Rochester, NY/Brighton), fourth (8.43 seconds), fifth (8.44) and eighth (8.55), respectively, in the 60-meter dash; sophomore Corine Pettit (Strykersville, NY/Holland), fifth in the triple jump (9.58 meters); sophomore Chelsea Hall (Grand Island, NY/Grand Island), sixth in the 60-meter hurdles (9.88 seconds) and triple jump (9.54 meters); Larkins, ninth in the 200-meter dash (27.93 seconds) and junior Amy Morrissey (Hiornell, NY/Hornell), ninth in the 400-meter dash (1:04.86).
The team of Hall, Morrissey, junior Jennifer Miranda (Bronx, NY/Bronx Academy of Letters) and sophomore Samantha Wood (Newfield, NY/Newfield) was seventh in the 4X400-meter relay (4:30.47).
The AU men’s and women’s teams are in action next on Saturday, Jan. 28 at the Empire 8 Conference championship meet at Ithaca College.
