AU ski teams compete at Toggenburg

FABIUS, NY - The Alfred University men’s and women’s Alpine ski teams competed Saturday and Sunday at Toggenburg. The men’s team placed fifth of eight teams competing, while the Saxon women’s team was fourth of eight.

The AU men took fifth in both the slalom races Saturday and the giant slalom on Sunday. Sophomore Mike Stasko (Batavia, NY/National Sports Academy) led the Alfred men, taking third in the slalom and fifth in the GS to finish third in the combined overall individual standings.

Senior Ryan Nanni (Batavia, NY/Batavia) was 26th in the slalom and 19th in the GS; junior Bob Celino (Bath, NY/Haverling) was 29th in the slalom and 26th in the giant slalom; senior Luke Masi (North Jersey, NJ/Jefferson Township) was 30th in both the slalom and GS; and freshman Jeremy Osak (Warwick, NY/Warwick Valley) was 20th in the slalom and 40th in the giant slalom.

Freshman Aniken Palola (Huntington, VT/Mount Mansfield) paced the AU women, taking 10th in both the slalom and giant slalom. The Lady Saxons took fourth in the team standings for the slalom and were fifth in the GS.

Sophomore Rebecca Spitz (Sterling, VA/Potomac Falls) was 16th in the slalom and 26th in the GS; junior Claire Dvorak (Tully, NY/Tully) was 25th in the slalom and 24th in the giant slalom; junior Ashley Frazell (Andover, NJ/Newton) was 32nd in the slalom and 34th in the giant slalom; and sophomore Chelsea Larson (Hornell, NY/Hornell) was 36th in the slalom and 46th in the GS.

Alfred is in action next on Saturday and Sunday, Jan. 28 and 29, at Bristol Mountain in Bristol, NY.
