AU indoor track and field teams compete at Empire 8 championships
ITHACA, NY - The Alfred University men’s and women’s indoor track and field teams competed Saturday at the Empire 8 Conference championship meet, hosted by Ithaca College. The Alfred men finished fourth of six teams competing and the AU women were fifth.
Senior Rich Scott (Eden, NY/Eden) led the AU men with second-place finishes in the 400-meter dash (51.32) and 200-meter dash (22.94). He was also eighth in the 60-meter dash (7.48 seconds). Sophomore Rebecca Graudons (Mayfield, NY/Mayfield) was the top performer for the Alfred women, taking second in the pole vault (3.20 meters) and tying for second in the high jump (1.63 meters). Her height in the high jump broke her own school record (1.58 meters, set earlier this season).
Other top performers for the Alfred men were: senior Ken Noll (Valatie, NY/Ichabod Crane), second in the 5,000-meter run (16:07.79); sophomore Jason Osborne (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool), second in the shot put (13.75 meters); sophomore Isaiah Cassin (Candor, NY/Candor), fourth in the high jump (1.88 meters); junior Jeremy Weaver (Lancaster, PA/Lancaster Catholic), sixth in the 400 meters (52.64) and 200 meters (23.65); senior Randy Brito (New York, NY/Cardinal Hayes), seventh in the 400 meters (52.71) and 200 meters (23.67); freshman Alec Pastre (Arlington, VA/Washington Lee), fourth in the shot put (12.23 meters) and ninth in the weight throw (9.90 meters); freshman Lucas Marshall (Windsor, NY/Windsor), seventh in the shot put (11.81 meters); and freshman Jeremy Franclemont (Perry, NY/Perry), sixth in the pole vault (3.20 meters).
The team of Weaver, freshman Sean Locker (Corning, NY/Corning-Painted Post West), Brito and Scott were second in the 4X400-meter relay (3:30.18).
For the AU women, sophomore Chelsea Hall (Grand Island, NY/Grand Island) was sixth in the 60-meter hurdles (9.92 seconds); junior Jordyn Larkins (Rochester, NY/Harlery-Allendale-Columbia) was sixth in the 60-meter dash (8.44 seconds) and eighth in the 200-meter dash (28.31); freshman Miasia Hillman (Buffalo, NY/Hutch Tech) was eighth in the 60-meter dash (8.51 seconds); junior Amy Morrissey (Hornell, NY/Hornell) was ninth in the 400-meter dash (1:04.49); sophomore Samantha Wood (Newfield, NY/Newfield) was tied for sixth in the high jump (1.38 meters); sophomore Corine Pettit (Strykersville, NY/Holland) was ninth in the triple jump (9.88 meters); junior Kelly-Jo Beck (York, NY/York) was ninth in the shot put (10.04 meters); and senior Kayla Summerville (Fairport, NY/Fairport) was eighth in the weight throw (9.86 meters).
The team of junior Erin Johnstone (West Henrietta, NY/Rush-Henrietta), Wood, Morrissey and junior Jennifer Miranda (Bronx, NY/Academy of Letters) was third in the distance medley relay (13:58.34) and the team of Hall, Wood, Miranda and Morrissey took third in the 4X400-meter relay (4:26.20).
The AU men’s and women’s teams are in action next on Saturday, Feb. 11, at Cornell.
