Lady Saxons fall to Hartwick

ONEONTA, NY -Host Hartwick College defeated the Alfred University women’s basketball team, 71-41, Friday evening in Empire 8 action.

Hartwick held a 38-26 advantage at the half as the Hawks shot 46 percent, while holding AU to 36 percent shooting. In the second half Hartwick held the Saxons scoreless for the first nine plus minutes to build a 54-26 lead. AU would get no closer as the Hawks limited the Saxons to just 15 points in the second half, and five-of-25 shooting for 20 percent. For the game, Hartwick shot 46 percent to 29 percent for the Saxons, and held Alfred to just 12.5 percent from behind the arc (three-for-24).

Sophomore forward Grace Williamson (Olean, NY/Olean) recorded her 15th double-double on 16 points and a game-high 12 rebounds to pace the Saxons (7-13, 0-10 Empire 8). Senior guard Christina Jordan (Cornwall-on-the-Hudson, NY/Cornwall) netted six points and freshman forward Shea Oleksa (Seneca Falls, NY/Mynderse) and freshman guard Harley Cleary (Rochester, NY/Our Lady of Mercy) each finished with four points, while pulling down four and two rebounds respectively.

Maria Foglia scored a game-high 17 points on five-of-nine shooting and added six rebounds to lead the Hawks (17-3, 9-1 Empire 8). Carlee Hirt scored nine points and Lee Ardunini finished with eight points, seven rebounds, three assists, two steals, and a block.

Alfred is in action next on Saturday, Feb. 4, 2 p.m. against host Stevens.
