Stevens defeats Saxons, 90-74

HOBOKEN, NY - The Alfred University men’s basketball team dropped a 90-74 decision to host Stevens Tech, Saturday afternoon in an Empire 8 Conference matchup.

Stevens (18-4, 9-2 Empire 8) shot 55 percent from the floor to 39 percent for Alfred and forced 15 AU turnovers. The Ducks held a 52-25 lead at the half, behind an impressive 66 percent shooting from the floor. For the game, the Ducks held a 41-35 advantage in rebounds.

Senior guard Josh Parker (Tonawanda, NY/Sweet Home) scored a team-high 17 points, and added four assists, four steals and a pair of rebounds to lead the Saxons (13-8, 5-6 Empire 8). Senior forward Derek Lewis (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads) (Corning CC)) finished with 16 points, five boards and three blocks. Senior forward Pat Hollenbeck (Ontario, NY/Wayne) and freshman forward Dan Totten (Red Hook, NY/Red Hook) each scored eight points, while pulling down six and two rebounds respectively.

Sheldon Jones netted a game-high 20 points on eight-of-14 shooting to lead the Ducks. Simon Smith finished with a double-double scoring 17 points and corralling 10 rebounds and Matt Skrelja chipped in with 11 points.

Alfred is in action next on Saturday, Feb. 10, at 8 p.m. at home vs. Utica.
