AU indoor track and field teams compete at Ithaca Invitational
ITHACA, NY - The Alfred University men’s and women’s indoor track and field teams competed Saturday and Sunday at the Ithaca College Invitational. There were no team scores, but three AU athletes qualified for the ECAC indoor championships in March.
Junior Jordyn Larkins (Rochester, NY/Harley-Allendale-Columbia) took ninth in the 200-meter dash, with her time of 27.55 seconds setting a new school record and qualifying her for the ECAC championships March 2 and 3 at The Armory in New York City.
Two members of the AU men’s team - sophomores Isaiah Cassin (Candor, NY/Candor) and Jason Osborne (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) - also qualified for the ECAC meet. Cassin did in the high jump with his third-place leap of 1.93 meters; Osborne took sixth in the shot put (13.51 meters) to qualify as well.
Other top-10 performers for AU (all from the women’s team) were: junior Kelly-Jo Beck (York, NY/York) and sophomore Jennifer Kirsch (Penfield, NY/Penfield), ninth (10.03 meters) and 10th (9.74 meters), respectively, in the shot put; and sophomore Corine Pettit (Strykersville, NY/Holland), 10th in the long jump (9.51 meters).
The Alfred men’s and women’s teams are in action next on Saturday, Feb. 11, at Cornell.
