Ithaca tops AU in Empire 8 women’s basketball action
ALFRED, NY - Ithaca College visited Alfred University Saturday afternoon and handed the AU women’s basketball team a 68-37 setback.
Ithaca (20-4, 12-1 Empire 8) shot a blistering 54 percent from the floor in the first half, to 22 percent for AU, in opening up a 36-15 halftime lead. The Bombers cooled down after intermission, shooting 34 percent, but finished the game shooting 42 percent from the field to 25 percent for the Saxons. Ithaca also outrebounded Alfred, 55-22, as the Saxons fell to 7-17 on the season (0-13 Empire 8).
Sophomore forward Grace Williamson (Olean, NY/Olean) had eight points, nine rebounds and three blocks to pace Alfred. Freshman guard Emilea Harrison (Dansville, NY/Dansville) had six points, connecting on both her three-point attempts, and sophomore forward Sarah Federico (Buffalo, NY/Holy Angels) had four points, three rebounds, a block and a steal.
Jenn Escobido shot 8-for-14 from the floor en route to scoring a game-high 20 points and also pulled down a game-high 15 rebounds to lead Ithaca. Kathryn Campbell added 11 points and Mary Kate Tierney had eight points and four assists.
AU wraps up the season next Saturday, Feb. 18, at 2 p.m. at home against Empire 8 foe Elmira College.
