AU ski teams makes marks on slopes at Greek Peak

CORTLAND , NY - The Alfred University men’s and women’s Alpine ski teams turned in their best performances of the season Saturday and Sunday at Greek Peak. The men’s team placed second of eight teams competing, while the Saxon women’s team was third.

One member from each Saxon team earned individual combined honors. Sophomore Mike Stasko (Batavia, NY/National Sports Academy) won the men’s slalom competition and took sixth in the giant slalom to finish second overall; freshman Aniken Palola (Huntington, VT/Mount Mansfield) was third in the slalom and 10th in the GS and finished third overall to lead the AU women.

The AU men took second in the slalom races Saturday and the giant slalom on Sunday to finish second overall in the team standings. Senior Ryan Nanni (Batavia, NY/Batavia) was 13th in the slalom and 10th in the GS, while freshman Jeremy Osak (Warwick, NY/Warwick Valley) was 11th in the slalom and 18th in the giant slalom.

The Saxon women were fourth in the GS and second in the slalom races en route to finishing third overall. Sophomore Rebecca Spitz (Sterling, VA/Potomac Falls) was sixth in the slalom and 15th in the GS, and junior Claire Dvorak (Tully, NY/Tully) was 15h in the slalom and 21st in the giant slalom.

Alfred is in action next on Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 18 and 19, at Labrador Mountain in Truxton, NY.
