Rochester photographer Ken Riemer has joined forces with AU alumna Heather Roffe ’94 and other dancers from FUTURPOINTE DANCE, a professional company based in Rochester, to create visual images of dancers captured at the "intersection of movement, light and time."
"There is only one precise moment, one tiny window of opportunity, when these fleeting elements intersect," explains Riemer. "The dancers’ shadows add a dimension that enables the viewer to better understand movement and form, thus providing a greater appreciation of the beauty, strength and grace of the subject.
"My body of work is the result of an ongoing collaboration with incredibly gifted dancers, not from Photoshop or blue smoke and mirrors. What you see is real," he added.
Riemer is a commercial photographer who has owned and operated his studio for more than three decades.
Roffe is a performer, choreographer, and professor of dance, and has taught in the Dance departments at the State University of New York (SUNY) at Brockport; SUNY Potsdam; Hobart and William Smith Colleges, Geneva; St. John Fisher College, Rochester; and currently at Wells College, Aurora.
Roffe’s choreography has been presented in venues across the country and has been commissioned by professional companies and dance programs throughout the United States.
She has performed nationally and internationally with the Garth Fagan Dance Company, and nationally in her own work, and with Bill Evans Dance Company. She also directs, choreographs, performs and teaches for FUTURPOINTE DANCE.
