Confucius Institute to host Sichuan University Troupe in Corning
On Sunday, Feb. 19, the Confucius Institute at Alfred University presents the Spring Festival Gala with Sichuan University, to be held at 6:30 p.m. in the Auditorium Theater of the Corning Museum of Glass.
Admission to the event is free and open to the public, however a limit of 70 tickets are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Those interested in tickets should go to Olin 211 and ask for Sue Brennan. A 40-seat bus has been reserved for the event, leaving from McLane parking lot at 5 p.m. and returning to Alfred around 10 p.m. Priority will be given to students.
The Sichuan University Troupe showcases classical Chinese songs, music, dances and the Sichuan Opera, with a focus on Western Chinese culture. Established in 1999 as one of the earliest university troupes in the western part of China, the Sichuan University Troupe is highly regarded for its unique performances depicting life from that part of the country.
Sunday night’s performance marks the final leg of the troupe’s State University of New York campus tour. The troupe performed at Maritime College Feb. 10, the College of Optometry Feb. 13, and will perform at Binghamton on Feb. 16.
