AU men’s basketball team stomps Keuka, 82-53

KEUKA PARK, NY - Senior guard Josh Parker (Tonawanda, NY/Sweet Home) netted a game-high 19 points as the Alfred University men’s basketball team rolled past host Keuka College, 82-53, Tuesday evening in a non-conference matchup.

The Saxons netted the first games first basket, just 20 seconds into the contest to take a 2-0 lead when senior forward Derek Lewis (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads (Corning CC)) knocked down a mid-range jumper. Keuka responded quickly converting a pair of baskets, including a three-pointer to take a 5-2 lead with 18:36 remaining in the first half of action. AU responded going on a 6-0 run over the course of a 2:24 span to claim a 11-5 lead. The Saxons went into intermission holding a 41-31 advantage.

In the second half it was all AU, as the Saxons led throughout and increased its lead to as much as thirty (78-48, with 2:45 remaining). For the game, AU shot an impressive 48 percent from the field, while holding the Storm to a mere 28 percent shooting (19 percent from behind the arc). AU held a 49-42 advantage in rebounds.

Parker finished with 19 points, seven rebounds, a game-best four assists, and a game-high four steals to pace the Saxons (14-10, 5-8 Empire 8). Lewis netted 14 points on six-of-11 shooting, adding seven rebounds two assists, and two blocks and junior forward Sean Curran (Honesdale, PA/Honesdale) knocked down four shots from behind the arc for 12 points. Sophomore forward Mike Branche (Schenectady, NY/Colonie) chipped in with 10 points, seven boards, two assists and a steal.

Teddy Tuggles netted a team-high 17 points to lead the Storm (5-17). Tyler Hixson fell just short of a double-double scored 19 points, while pulling down a game-high nine rebounds and Coty Paige chipped in with nine points.

AU returns to action Saturday, Feb. 18, at 8 p.m., as they take on visiting Elmira College in the 2011-12 season finale.
