ITHACA, NY - Junior Shane Stadtmueller (Red Creek, NY/Red Creek) shattered the 23-year-old Alfred University school record in the indoor pentathlon during Cornell University’s Kane Invitational Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 11 and 12.

Stadtmueller, a first-year member of the Saxons’ men’s track and field team, scored 3,966 points to break the previous AU school mark of 3,422 points, set by Gregory Cole in 1989. He finished sixth out of 17 athletes in the pentathlon, a seven-event competition held over two days.

He was ninth in the 60-meter dash (7.71 seconds), 10th in the long jump (5.86 meters), second in the shot put (10.86 meters), sixth in the high jump (1.77 meters), 10th in the 60-meter hurdles (9.98 seconds) and pole vault (2.90 meters), and fourth in the 1,000-meter run (2:51.83).

Stadtmueller will compete next in the pentathlon at the New York State indoor championship meet Feb. 24 and 25 at Hamilton College in Clinton, NY.
