Alfred University’s Parker earns men’s basketball all-conference honors

ALFRED, NY - Josh Parker (Tonawanda, NY/Sweet Home), a senior guard on the Alfred University men’s basketball team, has been named an Empire 8 Conference all-star.

The Empire 8 announced it’s all-conference teams today and Parker was named to the Second Team. Parker becomes Alfred’s first Empire 8 men’s basketball all-star since the 2006-07 season, when Robby McCarter was named to the Second Team and Dillon Stein was given honorable mention.

Parker ranked among the conference leaders in several categories. His 14.6 points per game were tied for ninth; his 6.1 rebounds per game ranked ninth; his 3.5 assists per game ranked fifth; his .792 free throw percentage was fifth; and his 2.4 steals per game led the league and ranks 43rd in the nation.

His stats in Empire 8 games ranked even better. In 14 league games, Parker scored 16.1 points per game (fifth) and pulled down 6.4 rebounds per contest (eighth). He shot 82.7 percent from the foul line in Empire 8 games (third) and his 1.9 steals per game led the league. Parker shot 37.5 percent on three-pointer in Empire 8 games, which ranked him eighth in the conference.

Each season, the Empire 8 honors students-athletes from each conference school, who play on teams sponsored by the conference, with Sportsperson of the Year awards. Honorees, chosen by their coaches, exhibited outstanding sportsmanship in keeping with the conference’s mission of "competing with honor and integrity." Senior center Bryan Bobo (Ontario, NY/Wayne) is Alfred’s honoree from the men’s basketball team.
Alfred finished its regular season with a 15-10
record (6-8 Empire 8). The Saxons are awaiting word on whether they will play in an ECAC postseason tournament, bids for which will be announced Monday.
