AU indoor track and field teams compete at state championships
CLINTON, NY - The Alfred University men’s and women’s indoor track and field teams competed Friday in the first day of the New York State Collegiate track Conference championships. Alfred’s men are in ninth place with eight points and the AU women are in eighth place with nine points. The two-day championships are being held at Hamilton College and conclude today.
Senior Rich Scott (Eden, NY/Eden) had the best performance in Friday’s preliminary heats of the 400-meter dash. His time of 49.87 seconds broke his own school record. He was fifth in the preliminaries of the 200-yard dash (22.98 seconds). Finals for those races will be held today.
Scoring points for the AU men Friday were: freshman Lucas Marshall (Windsor, NY/Winsdor), fifth in the shot put (13.03 meters) and freshman Alec Pastre (Arlington, VA/Washington Lee), seventh in the shot put (12.77 meters). Scott, junior Chris Lopez (Rochester, NY/Pittsford-Sutherland), senior Justin Shardlow (Alfred Station, NY/Alfred-Almond) and junior Jeremy Weaver (Lancaster, PA/Lancaster Catholic) took seventh in the 4X200-meter relay (1:33.01).
Sophomore Isaiah Cassin (Candor, NY/Candor) was 10th in the high jump (1.83 meters) and junior Shane Stadtmueller (Red Creek, NY/Red Creek) stood in 10th place midway through the heptathlon (2,221 points), which concludes Saturday.
Sophomore Rebecca Graudons (Mayfield, NY/Mayfield) led the AU women Friday, placing fifth in the high jump (1.53 meters).
The Saxon women also scored in two relays. Sophomore Chelsea Hall (Grand Island, NY/Grand Island), freshmen Patricia Banahene (Rochester, NY/Brighton) and Miasia Hillman (Buffalo, NY/Hutch Tech) and junior Jordyn Larkins (Rochester, NY/Harley-Allendale-Columbia) took sixth in the 4X200-meter relay (1:52.39), while junior Amy Morrissey (Hornell, NY/Hornell), Hall, freshman Tracie Forrester (Gainesvillle, NY/Letchworth) and senior Elisabeth Phillips-Jones (Watertown, MA/Watertown) were seventh in the distance medley relay (13:35.47).
Also on Friday for the AU women, junior Kelly-Jo Beck (York, NY/York) and sophomore Jennifer Kirsch (Penfield, NY/Penfield) were 11th (10.48 meters) and 13th (9.81 meters), respectively, in the shot put.
Larkins was eighth in the preliminary heats of the 200-meter dash (27.31 seconds) and will compete in the finals today.
