Scott, Graudons win titles at state indoor track and field championships
CLINTON, NY - Alfred University senior Rich Scott (Eden, NY/Eden) and sophomore Rebecca Graudons (Mayfield, NY/Mayfield) each won individual titles at the New York State Collegiate Track Conference (NYSCTC) indoor track and field championships, held Friday and Saturday at Hamilton College.
Graudons set new NYSCTC conference, championship and Hamilton fieldhouse records in winning the pole vault (3.58 meters, ECAC qualifying). Scott won the 400-meter dash in an ECAC-qualifying 49.37 seconds, breaking the school record he established in Friday’s preliminary heats. Scott also placed third in Saturday’s 200-meter dash in an ECAC-qualifying 22.79 seconds.
The AU men finished the two-day championships in seventh place, out of 11 teams competing, with 35 points. The Saxon women placed 10th of 11 teams, with 19 points. RPI won the men’s team title and Ithaca claimed the women’s championship.
Junior Shane Stadtmueller (Red Creek, NY/Red Creek), in 10th place in the men’s heptathlon after Friday’s events, finished in fifth place with 4,032 points, which broke the school record of 3,966 points he set Feb. 11 at the Cornell Kane Invitational. Junior Jeremy Weaver (Lancaster, PA/Lancaster Catholic) took fifth in the 500-meter run with an ECAC-qualifying time of 1:07.55), and senior Evan Roush (Newport, PA/Newport) was ninth in the triple jump (12.98 meters).
The team of junior Chris Lopez (Rochester, NY/Pittsford-Sutherland), freshman Sean Locker (Corning, NY/Corning-Painted Post West), Weaver and Scott took sixth in the 4X400-meter relay (3:30.98) and the team of freshman Terel Marshburn (Elmira, NY/Elmira Free Academy), junior Stefan Nonnenmann (New Providence, NJ/New Providence), Stadtmueller and senior Ken Noll (Valatie, NY/Ichabod Crane) was ninth in the 4X800-meter relay (8:51.28).
For the Alfred women, junior Jordyn Larkins (Rochester, NY/Harley-Allendale-Columbia) was ninth in the 200-meter dash (27.42 seconds); junior Amy Morrissey (Hornell, NY/Hornell) was 14th in the 500-meter run (1:26.27); and sophomore Corine Pettit (Strykersville, NY/Holland) was 15th in the triple jump (10.11 meters).
The team of Morrissey, sophomore Chelsea Hall (Grand Island, NY/Grand Island), Larkins and freshman Tracie Forrester (Gainesville, NY/Letchworth) was 10th in the 4X400-meter relay (4:28.88), while senior Elisabeth Phillips-Jones (Watertown, MA/Watertown), Pettit, and juniors Jennifer Miranda (The Bronx, NY/Academy of Letters) and Erin Johnston (West Henrietta, NY/Rush-Henrietta) teamed to take ninth in the 4X800-meter relay (10:47.37).
The AU men’s and women’s teams are in action next on Friday and Saturday at the ECAC indoor championships at The Armory in New York City.
