Saxons edge Roberts Wesleyan in season opener

ROCHESTER, NY - Sophomore attackman Brett Carroll (Buffalo, NY/Bishop Timon-St. Jude) scored a career-high seven goals on seven shots, as the Saxons defeated Roberts Wesleyan, 12-9, Monday evening.

Alfred outshot the Raiders 42-31 and committed just four turnovers, while forcing 14 Roberts Wesleyan miscues. The Saxons held a 6-4 lead at halftime, and out scored the hosts 6-5 in the second half.

Senior attackman Stefen Dabkowski (Latham, NY/Shaker (SUNY Delhi CC)) netted three goals, and sophomore attack Caleb McCaig (Corning, NY/Corning West (Mercyhurst)) scored a goal and had two assists. Junior midfielder Dave Malave (Shoreham, NY/Shoreham-Wading River) dished out a pair of assists, and sophomore midfielder Derek Green (Pittsburgh, PA/The Kiski School) and freshman midfielder Connor Sullivan (Stafford, VA/The Kiski School) each had an assists. Junior midfielder Matt Zon (Buffalo, NY/Sweet Home) (one goal) finished six-of-15 on face-offs, while scooping up three groundballs.

David Smith led the Raiders (0-1) recording a team-best six points on five goals and one assist. Colin Conarie had one goal and helped on two others and Anthony Nucci Laura finished 14-of-21 on face-offs, picking up a game-best nine groundballs.

Freshman Cody O’Connor (Whitney Point, NY/Whitney Point) earned the victory in goal for the Saxons making five saves, while Matt Hamilton made a game-high 14 saves in net for Roberts Wesleyan.
