AU men’s lacrosse falls to SUNY Brockport, 10-3 3/03/12
Alfred (1-1 0-0 Empire 8) trailed 5-1 at the half, despite holding a 23-11 advantage in shots at intermission. For the game, AU outshot Brockport, 41-24 and held a slight 23-22 advantage in groundballs. Senior attackman Stefan Dabkowski (Latham, NY/Shaker (SUNY Delhi), sophomore midfielder Derek Green (Pittsburgh, PA/The Kiski School), and freshman attackman Nicolas Wood (Canandaigua, NY/Canandaigua) each netted a goal for the Saxons. Sophomore attackman Brett Carroll (Buffalo, NY/Bishop Timon-St. Jude) chipped in with an assist and junior midfielder Matt Zon (Buffalo, NY/Sweet Home) finished nine-of-13 at the face-off X, while scooping up a game-high five groundballs. Junior defender Jacob Spadoni (Webster, NY/Webster Schroeder) recorded a game-high four caused turnovers, and picked up four groundballs. Riley Austin finished with a game-high four points on three goals and an assist to lead the Golden Eagles (1-1). Jesse Elliot notched two goals and Matt Andon-McLane helped on a pair of goals. Freshman Cody O’Connor (Whitney Point, NY/Whitney Point) started in goal for AU making seven saves, while allowing seven goals in 46:34. Sophomore Tyler Beyor (Carthage, NY/Carthage (Regis College)) played 9:12 allowing a pair of goals and stopping one shot, and junior Theo Tomczak (Elba, NY/Elba) playing the remaining 4:14 making one save. Cory Banwaree went the distance in goal for Brockport stopping a game-high 17 shots to earn the victory. Alfred is in action next on Wednesday, March 7, at 4 p.m., as they take on host Colorado College. |
