Saxons split two in Arizona
Sophomore centerfielder Breeal Delgado (Rancho Cucamonga, CA/Los Osos) went 3-for-4 with a double, three RBIs and a run scored and junior second baseman Maressa Mistretta (Shirley, NY/Longwood) had two hits, including an RBI double, and scored twice against Pitt-Bradford. Freshman Jessica O’Sullivan (Groton, MA/Groton Dunstable Regional) earned the pitching win, tossing four innings of five-hit shutout ball while striking out three with no walks.
The Saxons left 11 runners on base against the Panthers. Freshman rightfielder Alyson Hampton (Oxnard, CA/Oxnard) had two hits, a run scored, an RBI and a stolen base; sophomore third baseman Jessica Warner (Runnemede, NJ/Triton) went 2-for-3 and scored a run; and freshman pitcher Alison Wickwire (Towanda, PA/Towanda) (RBI), freshman Betsy Clark (Webster, NY/Bishop Kearney), sophomore infielder Melissa Montano (West Covina, CA/Walnut) and junior catcher Hana Gross (Union, NJ/Union) each had a base hit.
Wickwire earned the saved for the Saxons, allowing one earned run on four hits over three innings. Freshman Lauren Fix (Hudson, NY/Germantown) scored as a pinch runner.
Senior shortstop Nicole Hedrick (Albany, NY/Catholic Central) and Warner each had a base hit as the Saxons lost to nationally-ranked Coe for the second time in two days. Hampton had a walk and stole a base and now has five steals in the team’s first four games.
Sophomore pitcher Victoria Kramp (Yardley, PA/Pennsbury) took the loss, allowing five runs (three unearned) on four hits over six innings while striking out five and walking five. The Saxons had four errors, three in the second inning, when they allowed three runs, two of them unearned.
Alfred plays today against Medaille at 6 p.m. and Pitt-Bradford at 8 p.m. The rest of AU’s Arizona schedule is as follows: Purdue North Central at 12 p.m. and Northwestern College at 2 p.m., Thursday, March 8; Siena Heights at 2 p.m. and No. 7 Central College at 4 p.m., Friday, March 9; and Patton College at 3:30 p.m. and Central at 6 p.m., Saturday, March 10.
